Admission of Residents Policy

Admissions Policy

  1. Overview

Tigh a'Chomainn Camphill offers residential, and day support services for individuals with additional support needs. Regular enquiries are received from parents and carers for new residents to join Tigh a'Chomainn either as a residential placement (with day workshops) or as a workshop placement. Every enquiry and subsequent application is considered carefully, on its own merits, and in the light of the existing group of residents with whom the applicant would be living and/or working. A thorough admissions procedure will follow, taking into account the needs of the individual applicant.

  1. What you need to know and do

Admission Procedure

The usual route for admission starts with an enquiry from either family/carer of the prospective resident or the relevant social worker/ care manager. The next stage involves visits where the relevant manager and co-workers can get to meet the applicant and set up trial visits. For residential placements visits will include overnight stays at the same time, Tigh a'Chomainn will seek to build a full picture of the applicant and their needs through personal support plans and other relevant documents.

Tigh a'Chomainn Camphill day workshops initially offer a 2-week trial for pro-rata depending on the number of days the individual would like to attend in the future. This is aimed at providing the opportunity to individuals to fully experience the working environment. During the first one or two weeks of the trial, depending on need, individuals should be supported by an escort/carer/relative. Throughout this trial period, the needs of the individual will be assessed.

Tigh a'Chomainn Camphill residential services operate a ‘note of interest’ list, where interested families can log their details. Depending on availability of placements, our residential a week long trial to individuals who wish to live in the community. This may be extended depending on our assessment. The cost of the placement will depend on the needs of the individual interested and a fee will be agreed prior to the commencement of the trial. The trial visit will need to be funded in full by the social work department or, exceptionally, by the individual.

Towards the end of the trial, a review will take place to discuss the future of the placement. If both sides agree that the placement should continue a fee will be agreed for the permanent placement. Should the individual or Tigh a'Chomainn feel that an extended trial period is necessary, this may also be agreed. Any issues with regards to fees and funding should only be dealt with by the relevant senior manager. If it is felt by Tigh a'Chomainn Camphill that for any reason the applicant would not fit in, these reasons would be clearly stated in this report or with an accompanying letter.

If the trial visit is felt by all concerned to have been successful, a letter is sent out as soon as possible confirming the offer of a place and the earliest starting date. A pack covering all aspects of the applicant’s future placement will be included. A financial agreement will be sent to the social worker/care manager. Once the service agreement form is returned, the placement is considered definite. During the first four weeks a Personal Development Plan and a Risk Assessment will be in place after consultation between the key co-worker, the individual, family/carer and/or social worker.
