Three principles of support

Tigh a'Chomainn works with three foundational principles of support. These are especially important in relation to the home environment:

Feeling responsible, Feeling connected, Attention to detail

Feeling responsible.
It is vital in a setting like TAC that we all feel responsible. This means if we see washing needs to be laundered one does it likewise washing up, checking bathrooms are clean, ensuring the lounges are tidy etc. By maintaining good standards, we support people to feel responsible for their own spaces and feel that the communal spaces are there for all to enjoy.

If things are untidy/unkempt and bits cannot be found this can be a cause for distress and irritation. By being aware of our surrounding we not only outwardly create order we also help people feel at ease, relaxed and less stressed.

Feeling connected.
Good communication is key to harmony and all feeling they know what is going on when and where. This is not only vital for the co-workers but also for the people we support. If changes occur or you are running late for something make sure you let colleagues know. If you’re not sure how to do something ask for help. There is no shame in asking it is often better to be sure of something then leaving it or a mistake occurring.

Attention to detail.
This is a vital part of the work with others. If you use it clean it, if you empty it fill it, if it runs out make sure it’s on the next shopping order etc. Things must be CLEAN so ensuing we have clean towels, cloths, table cloths are important likewise that things look beautiful so finding flowers for the tables and a candle makes it look homely. These acts of beautifying, making sure things are clean and in the right place creates an environment that not only says we care but we want all to feel well
and at home.
